Hola Familia! :) Man, it's been a crazy, busy and packed week and yet it went by so fast! The preparedness plan sounds awesome and fun!! Oh guess what, I can sleep at night!! In the begining of the MTC, it was the same. Then eventually it got later and later because my mind wouldn´t turn off untill 12 or 1 every night. But here I´m asleep by 10:45-11. I´m so grateful because the days are packed! This week has been happy, hard, frustrating, scary (haha in 1 area), humbling, tiring, painful, cold, sad, spiritual, uplifting, fast, and AMAZING! The ward is small to me, but I don't know if it´s big for here or what. But we met the bishop and pretty much everyone throughout the week. There were only a couple new faces that I saw at church. haha I don't know how many people exactly but maybe 40 including me, my companion, 2 elders and the kids tambien. We had 2 investigators that came. I was happy to see them but I´m expecting more next week that said they just weren´t able to come but plan to next week.I'm going to start with Florencia now.. It´s a long story but basically my first day Hna Peña (my companion) told me we were going to fast the next day for a little girl, Florencia, who had a baptismal date for Saturday (2 days ago) but her mom didn´t want to sign the paper to allow it 2 weeks ago when her older sister got baptized (Rocio). Her mom was yelling at Hna Peña saying she doesn´t know what she wants. She´s too young. So Wednesday we fasted. Thursday was Florencia's birthday. We went over to sing and talk with her mom but she wasn´t there. First off she lives in a really ghetto, scary area and she was home alone because her mom has to work. I don't know where her sister was. Thursday night, Hna Peña had the impression to bake a cake for Florencia and her mom. So Friday night (day before the baptismal date) we took it over. Her mom told us she didn´t have any money to get Florencia anything for her birthday. She asked Florencia, "Do you want to be baptized?" She said yes, and then she signed the papers. So the next day she was baptized. Her mom wasn´t able to attend though. But when the Elder (our zone leader) asked her why she wanted to be baptized, she said, ´´to help my family´´. She´s adorable. I´ll send you pictures. Yesterday she was confirmed and has the Spirit so she doesn't have to be alone anymore!! :)Man, I´m so happy to be here, I know this church is true, and I love it! I know that the Holy Ghost is real! It´s really hard just jumping in to investigators that my comp knows more about and I don´t even know their names. And then trying to help them and speak after my companion haha. There´s no way without the Spirit. I know that the gift of tongues is real and the Spirit helps me so much. My favorite day so far was Saturday. Not only for Florencia to get baptized, but during the night we had so many lessons where I could speak Spanish and follow along with what they were saying. At least enough to know what I needed to know and share scriptures that have helped me personally that they said was exactly what they needed. I know it's because of the Spirit, definitely not me! haha I love my mission. I love my companion. I love the people. I love the Spirit. I love learning Spanish. I love this gospel and love learning more about it. I love you all, AND I love my Savior!!!Con amor,Hna Jessica Keele

Hna. Jessica Keele- Aug. 30, 2010
Elder Jordan Keele- August 30, 2010
My first full week has been, well, the life of a missionary :) The ups and downs have all made their presence. I love it! Sure it's hard sometimes, like when you have 7 investigators commit to coming to church and only 1 shows up. But it's alright. It's the Lords work, and as long as I'm trying my hardest, nothing else really matters. I mean, we can always improve, and we've made some goals to get more to church next week, so hopefully things will change. I still have no idea how long I'll be here, but I'm working as if I'm staying here for 2 years. I think that's the best way to look at it.
That electricity exercise sounds like a lot of fun! As hard as it might be, that's a great idea. Just as the saying goes, you don't know what you've got until it's gone. And in D&C "If ye are prepared, ye shall not fear". So good work! :) [For the next three days, our ward is going without food shopping, gasoline, and electricity, except for the fridge and computer for this email!!! We will see how prepared we really are!]
In my ward yesterday we talked about councils for the fifth Sunday combined priesthood/relief society. It was.... good. I guess. Just a heads up though for everyone- If you have investigators or other non-member visitors attending your ward, stick to the basic doctrines of the gospel. It was a good thing in a way that only one investigator showed up yesterday, and he fell asleep for most of third hour. I didn't want to wake him up, because I think what was being taught may have scared him off. The 1st counselor in the ward gave the lesson. He was talking about things like how God was ordained and sustained by other gods and by all of us. Sure it's way cool and really interesting, but we have to be careful with investigators. In D&C 19, I don't remember what verse, probably 25 or something, it specifically says something along the lines of 'Of tenants ye shall not teach, but teach repentance, baptism, the Holy Ghost and keeping the commandments'. I don't know exactly what the word tenant means, but my MTC 1st counselor told us it was something like things that aren't doctrine, but that you just think about. Sure it's fun to discuss things like that, but is that going to save us? Do we need to know that to gain exaltation? No. At least not in this life. All of us need to be reminded DAILY of the basic principles of the gospel and live by them. I think in certain situations it may be appropriate to talk about 'tenants', but never to teach them.
I was talking to my district leader yesterday, and they said in their third hour they talked about preparedness too. Hmm... is this a sign???
I can't believe that Brett's already married! And that Todd is a bishop! Wow, that's so cool.
I agree that the Spanish experiences that I'm having here are preparing me so much to go to Mexico. The other night, we were teaching a 17 year old guy from Mexico. He prefers English. Anyway, we had met with him before, and we were teaching him the Plan of Salvation. His mom came out, about at the end, and she doesn't know English. She knew that I was at least learning Spanish, and she started talking to me. She's Catholic, but she fully supports what we're doing with her son. He's had a rough life, and has a hard time knowing good from evil. She wants him to be better, and so do we. Well, his mom and I and the 17 year old talked for about 20 minutes about things. All I can say is this- The gift of tongues is real, and the spirit is so powerful. There were promises given that I did not say, and there was no way I understood her on my own. It's amazing what can happen when you try to fully give all you have over to the Lord, and allow him to take care of things. It was a way cool experience that ended with both the son and his mom in tears.
Thank you so much for taking care of Hna. Whitehead, that was way nice of you all!
I hope I get the letter from Linda soon, because I for some reason have a feeling that I won't be here for too much longer. But, what do I know?
I love you all, and I'm so grateful for all the amazing support that I receive. This short time that I've been out here has really turned my life around. When you forget about yourself, you're happy. It's as simple as that. I miss the study time that I had in the MTC. So take advantage as much as possible to surround yourself with light. Whether it be by music, books, or just your thoughts. I'm so glad that I have this opportunity to really open my eyes. It's not my job to tell people what to do, but if I could encourage anyone to go on a mission I would. Then, not only that but to give literally everything you have to devote your life to the Savior. I can't count the blessings I've received for even just trying to give a tiny bit of what I have. Well mi familia, les amo muchisimo! Encuentren a una persona quien necesita ser feliz. Su ejemplo es la cosa mas poderosa que tiene. Viva como Jesucristo viviria si el estaba aqui.
Gracias a todos para todo!

Hna. Jessica Keele- Aug. 24, 2010
Well, I made it!! Usually P-days are on Mondays, but they switched for today because of transfers. That´s why I get to email now! I love my mission president and hermana. They are so sweet. They picked us up from the airport, and then we stayed at the mission home all day, had empanadas, interviews, and then met our companions. Mi compañera is Hna. Peña, from El Salvador, and she is so cute!! I´m going to help her with her English, and she is helping me with my Spanish. I´m very excited about being here and being able to talk to real people! haha But I love my zone, mission pres. and wife, mission and I can´t wait to have a full day here tomorrow! I´m glad that I got to talk to you today (or yesterday I guess) and I love you all!
love,
Hna Keele

Elder Jordan Keele- August 23, 2010
Hello
I'm doing real life missionary work! It's so much fun! I absolutely love it. My favorite parts of the day are when we're either tracting, teaching, or proselyting. As much as I love food, and the members, I just don't like spending much time doing anything else. That's when I'm the happiest here. But the whole thing is a happy thing. It's fun to try and live on my own. I have to make my own breakfast, (yeah I know, cereal and oatmeal are real hard to cook), and even my own lunch, (sandwiches aren't too tough to make either). But every night for the next month has been signed up by members of the ward to feed us. The ward area is huge. Basically my whole area that I'm in is the ward. We're on bikes. The mission home provided me with a cute purple bike, and I went to a store (essentially DI) and bought myself a nice $4 helmet. My rear end is sore, but I'm starting to get used to it.
My companion is Elder Cribbs. He's been out about 7 months. It's an English mission, but there are a lot of Spanish people out here. So Pres. Pfile has encouraged us to use it. Anytime we pass by people, we should talk to them. If they're Spanish speakers, then I can talk to them. My companion doesn't speak Spanish, but he's very patient and allows me to talk. Last night I taught 2 lessons in Spanish just from riding down the street. One was for about 20 minutes. I love it. The gift of tongues is REAL, lemme tell ya.
I agree, no matter where you go the Church is the same. The people may be different, but the Church is the same. It almost felt like home sitting in sacrament meeting yesterday. It was really cool. I haven't heard babies cry in Sacrament meeting in 2 and a half months! That's so great that the members in the California ward were so nice :)
Oh man, Jessica is gonna love it! It's only been a few days for me, but I feel like I'm basically settled in. It feels comfortable. This city is really big though, and because the Air Force Base is here, almost everyone is either in the Air Force, or has something to do with it. There are people from all kinds of different backgrounds. But generally they're friendly and are always up to talk. It's fun to just be riding our bikes up and down the streets and be yelled at by the cars driving by. Most of the time it's in a good way, but there are times.... Don't worry, the Lord is watching out for us. We're doing HIS work! What is there to worry about?! Nothing.
Well, I'm sure there's something I missed, and if I remember in the next few minutes I'll send another e-mail, otherwise, until next week!
I love you all!

Elder Jordan Keele- August 12, 2010
Alright alright, I give up. I'll tell you...
CHALLENGE TIME:
I think this would be a great idea for the trip. I absolutely love the hymns. If you look at the preface of the hymns, there's a message. If I remember right, it's from the First Presidency. One of the paragraphs talks about teaching your kids to love the hymns. I thought of both Mom and Dad. Mom, you always showed love for the hymns, and one of my fondest Sunday memories is always listening to the Sunday music on the radio. The songs were the same every week, but they never got old! And Dad, recently before I left, I remember at a family council one time you mentioned "we need to sing more in this home". I thought it was a great idea. So, the challenge is to read the hymn preface, then go from there. I've made it a goal to memorize a hymn every week. More realistically it'll be one every two or three weeks, but the goal is to always have a hymn in my mind. The Spirit can be in my life so much easier and it's almost impossible to be sad when you're singing a hymn.
I'm so excited to talk to real people! To be on the plane as a missionary talking to everyone will be great! Don't be afraid to talk to people about the gospel, wherever you are! Why be afraid? This is the most important message in the entire world! Go tell 'em! That's what I'm excited for.
I know the Lord knew I was going to Colorado. My guess is between a month or two there, come to the MTC for a week or two, then back to Mexico. Who knows?... (the Lord) :).
WOW! thank you so much for the package last week. JENNY OAKS BAKER SIGNED MY CD! That's so awesome. I can't wait to listen to it. It's going to be awesome. The peanut butter bars were delicious. Please tell Linda thank you soooo much for the other mini PMG! That made my day... for like 4 days!
Oh man, I just lose track of time here. If I wasn't checking my planner 20 times a day, I wouldn't even know what day it was. Missionary work goes sooo fast, but I love it.
K, 5 min. left. I'll write later tonight..
Love you All!

Elder Jordan Keele- August 12, 2010
Hola, I'm writing for just 5 minutes this morning to tell you a couple of things. I'll get on later today, between 2:30-5:30. I know, big window.
Anyways, Hna. Keele wants me to ask you this- she got a little orange suitcase thing from a freebox in her residency. She can't take it with her, so she wants to send it home. Obviously it's not worth sending as a package- it would cost too much. So we're maybe thinking of leaving it at the front office and maybe someone could come pick it up sometime. I know you're leaving for Cali on Sat., so we're not really sure what to do. But if you could let us know, we'd appreciate it.
Also, the other day I lost my scriptures. I prayed and still couldn't find them. One of my close friends in my district, Elder Castillo, told me he prayed for them as well. Well, I found them last night, and it turns out some missionaries thought it was free, because there's a section in the residencies that missionaries put stuff when they want to give it away. Well, I had accidentally set them there. I found my scriptures alone last night, then after walking and asking around I was able to find my mini PMG that an elder had taken, thinking it was free. I haven't been able to find my case yet, but I'm sure it'll pop up somewhere.
So you're wondering about the one more week subject, huh? Well, I got re-assigned! I leave Thursday, August 19th at 6:00 A.M. I'm so excited! It was a terrific day yesterday. The Lord blesses those who trust in Him.
I'm debating whether or not to tell you where I'm going... it is out of state, but I kind of like the suspense. So I think I'm gonna hold out for a little while :) Maybe I'll tell you later today.
Love you all, have an awesome everything!

Hna. Jessica Keele- Aug. 9, 2010
Well, I read your e-mail and I'm so happy that the Lord helped you find your diamond. :) And I loved how you used the little smiley emoticon haha Hermana Snow left on Wednesday. Estoy muy triste because I miss her, but it's okay because she is off teaching real people now! :) I'm so happy for her!! I'm getting more and more anxious to get out to Argentina everyday!!
Mom, thank you so much for the pictures for Hermana Snow. I was waiting to give it to her for a time when we were alone but basically that's impossible here. haha But I'm glad I waited because 2 days before she left we went to the temple and she was just super happy. She was even skipping on the way back from the temple. haha But she totally jinxed the day because she said "hey, remember how usually our p-days go bad?" and then it was all down hill from there. haha Basically there were a few things that went wrong but the biggest thing was we went to the bookstore and she realized that her debit card had expired so she couldn't get what she wanted, and she had no cash for the airport. She didn't know what to do. She went to the front desk and they let her call the bank. They said they sent the new card to her home and her parents were supposed to send her the new one, but they hadn't even mentioned that it arrived yet. Anyway, it all worked out in the end. Her mission is just going to reimburse the MTC or something. I gave the pictures to her that night and after being stressed out all day plus packing, idk, it just really made her day. So thank you very very much! She told me to tell you thank you and you're so sweet.
Thank you so much for the mini-preach my gospel. I love it and everyone's jealous. I have a list of about 20 people now that I'm suppose to ask, if you could get them one. haha Well, I love you and I also want you to know that I am YOUR biggest fan!! I love you and I am so grateful for your support.

I'll write later too, but I've only read the little top paragraphs. I absolutely love my mini-preach my gospel! It fits in my mini-scripture case along with my scriptures, so sorry Derek, but mine's already underlined and marked like crazy. But the Spanish one will be awesome too. Thank you and her so much! I forgot how she's getting them. I've been asked, and I'm sure Jessica has too a million times about where we got them. I hope things will get better for that couple and for dad. It sometimes just takes experiences like that to make us realize how much living right truly blesses our lives. For one thing, we don't have that type of problem!
My companion is still waiting for a washer to be available, so I'm just gonna keep writing till he's got one. It's so busy here! The MTC is packed to capacity. There are about 2,500 missionaries right now. It's crazy!
I took a picture of the e-mail. So I'll read your experience when I have more time, then respond later... probably in a couple hours. For now, I'll share some things that I learned. First of all, a quote that I like by an unknown author: "If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always gotten". So, if you don't like what your getting, change it!
Another couple things about obedience. Obedience is the first law of heaven. Obedience is a blessing in itself. The MTC President, Pres. Smith says that "to turn a blind eye to bad behavior, we are being disloyal, and disobedient to the Lord". Regarding disobedience, ignorance is quiet support. We have to correct others only when we're liable, and we must do it lovingly. But don't let others' bad decisions effect you by letting them do it while your just sitting there thinking 'should I say something, or shouldn't I? What would they think of me?'. When really the question we should be asking is 'Should I say something, or shouldn't I? What would THE LORD think of me?". We watched a devotional by Pres. Uchtdorf and he says that 'the key to having the spirit with you is obedience. I was thinking, we're all familiar with the scriptures- ya know, "if ye keep my commandments ye shall prosper in the land". Well, I was thinking, why is that so often said in the Book of Mormon? And what does it mean 'prosper in the land'? because surely there are people on this earth, in America in particular, that are not keeping the commandments of the Lord, and they seem to be 'prospering' just fine. Well, what is this earth going to be after Christ comes, after the millennium and everything? Now, this isn't doctrine, but I like to think that prosper in the land is talking about the Celestial Kingdom. As we know, the Celestial Kingdom will be here on this earth. Again, this may not be true, but I think for me it's a lot more meaningful to think of it that way.
My comp just found one, but we're gonna stay, so I'm still here...
Hna. Keele and I have still been seeing each other... a lot. Everyone is jealous that I get to talk to her so much :) I was able, as she mentioned in her e-mail, to sit with her at dinner and watch the Testaments. It was so awesome! She and her companion actually came by my classroom with my entire district there to do a singing door contact. She knocked on the door, talked for a sec, (of course in Spanish), and then they both sang 'Te necesito, Si', or 'I need Thee every Hour'. They did such a great job! She is going to invite the spirit to a whole bunch of people that wouldn't be able to start feeling it any other way. I can't wait to find out about her amazing experiences in Argentina.
No more word about VISA's yet, but we're doing fine. I've been debating, and praying wether or not I should try and go to the Provo Mission. No answer yet, so I guess for now I'm staying here. But that's just fine with me. Maybe that means I'm going to Mexico soon.
Well, my time is almost expired (for e-mail, don't worry, as far as my life goes I think I've still got a while, but who knows). I still haven't read your experience, but I can't wait to read it. I'll write a letter tonight and send it tomorrow morning. I love you all! I hope all is well. Have a wonderful week!
Love,
Elder Jordan Keele

Hna. Jessica Keele- Aug. 2, 2010
Well, how is everyone doing? EJ told me that the girls are going to 7 peaks? :) That will be fun!! Mom thank you so much for the pictures and package! I love my jacket!! haha So what have you all been up to lately?
We got a new district in our zone a week and a half ago and they are only going to be here for a couple more weeks because they are fluent, but it's been good practice during zone teach for sure! haha I'm really happy because I understand pretty much everything they say :) Even though I still can't think of it all on my own. haha But my Spanish is definitely improving. I'm happy!
Last night I got to eat dinner w/Jordi and then we watched The Testaments too! I love that boy! haha He's doing really well and very happy :) I'm way excited for Jen!! We got 3 new roommates on Wednesday, and they are all going to Guatemala : ) I think a different part though, but that's so cool!
I love the MTC but I'm getting really anxious to start teaching real investigators. We practice teaching with progressive investigators (I think my companion and I have 9 now) but 2 of them will be leaving on Wednesday :( Mia and Miguel. It's sad because even though they are pretending to be investigators, they think of real people in their life, so that it's more real and you really come to love the person they are playing. Even though it's not really them. haha But anyway, Mia is Hermana Snow (she plays her sister) and Miguel is one of her companions. The other one was "Brother Brown" (a member) But he just left this morning for Columbia. Sad day! haha We even had them committed to be baptized. I love it but again I can't wait to really help people in Argentina :) Well I hope everyone is doing well, I love you all so much!! Thank you all for your support! and I'll try and work on some letters today :)

I love it but again I can't wait to really help people in Argentina :) Well I hope everyone is doing well, I love you all so much!! Thank you all for your support! and I'll try and work on some letters today :)
con amor,
Jess
